Santa Clara Athletics Hall of Fame
Rick Martig was a local star in the bay playing for Bellarmine College Prep where he shattered many records including passing percentage. Martig decided to stay in the bay and attend Santa Clara University. At SCU, he was an outstanding football and baseball player, earning Little All-American honors as a Bronco football player his junior year. That year he had 10 pass deflections (led team), 51 tackles, and 2 interceptions as Small Safety/cornerback. His talents carried over to the diamond. On the baseball team, he batted .299 while starting at shortstop and sometimes third base. From his stellar play, Martig signed with the Seattle Seahawks.
