Loveless joined the Bronco Football program for two seasons in 1980 and 1981 after transferring from the College of San Mateo, where he was named the Offensive Lineman of the Year. Described by head coach Pat Malley as the "toughest lineman to ever play at Santa Clara," Loveless was a two year letterman and was voted by his teammates as the team's most valuable player as a senior. In 1980, he had a dominant season that resulted in the tackle earning Second Team All-America honors from the Associated Press along with UPI All-West Coast honors.Â
