Raymond was a talented high school recruit who choose Santa Clara University to attend and play football. During his time here, McCarthy was not just the #1 field general for 3 straight years, but also played every position, said Buck Shaw. McCarthy was a 6’0, 205 pounded red headed irishman who would not take no for an answer. McCarthy, being the head signal caller, was a leader to the team. He was also known to be a gruelling blocker that would fight to the whistle. McCarthy reminded people of fellow blocker and signal caller Nello Falaschi.
