Joseph Lacey had Irish fighting blood in him during his time at SCU as a boxer and football player. Lacey standing at 6’0 and weighing 205 pounds played football, but excelled at boxing where he won the Pacific Coast Heavyweight Boxing Championship in 1940. In both sports, he used his long and big frame to outlast the opponent. Lacey was a member of both of the Santa Clara Sugar Bowl teams as an end. He even played on the 1941 All-Star football team.  After SCU, he served during WWII and the Korean war.
