Johnny Schiechl played Bronco football in the late 1930s. He was a standout athlete on boths sides of the ball. At center Johnny helped control Santa Clara’s offense. During the Texas A&M game his senior year, he established himself as the best center on the Pacific Coast. In 1938, Schiechl and the Broncos defeated LSU to become Sugar Bowl Champions. While at Santa Clara, he received All-American honors. After graduation, Schiechl played professional ball for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1941), Detroit Lions (1942), Chicago Bears (1945-1946), and his hometown San Francisco 49ers (1947). In 1971, Schiechl was inducted into the Santa Clara Hall of Fame for his contributions to the Bronco Football Program.
