John Thom was a standout player on the Santa Clara Football team. At SCU, he was a great tackler and ball hawk on defense, and was one of the key figures who came up with stops against LSU in the 1938 Sugar Bowl. His exceptional pass snatching and consistent tackling ranked him among the best ends in the country.
