Santa Clara Athletics Hall of Fame
While some of his San Mateo County High School rivals went straight to the MLB, Jan Dukes accepted a scholarship from Santa Clara University. He quickly became a starting pitcher, but unfortunately was sidelined due to an injury and moved to the outfield for his sophomore and junior seasons. An injury could not deter Dukes from baseball. He was back on the mound for his senior season as a standout starter for the Broncos. This exceptional year propelled him into the first round of the MLB draft where he was selected 8th overall by the Washington Senators.
