The 1982 Lightweight Crew Team became known as the "lightweight eight" and was a two time champion of Western Sprints (now the Pacific Coast Rowing Championship) in 1981 and 1982. This team was the last Santa Clara team to compete at the Henley Royal Regatta in England. Oarsman Michael Connors '83 became the Santa Clara Women's Rowing coach from 1986-92.
