Jerry Howarth graduated from Santa Clara in 1968 with a degree in economics. After several stints as a play-by-play announcer, he became a commentator for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1981. Alongside fellow commentator Tom Cheek, “Tom and Jerry” were the radio voices of the Blue Jays for the next 23 years. Howarth’s tenure covered Toronto’s back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993. Upon Cheek’s death in 2005, Howarth continued to voice Blue Jays games until his retirement thirteen years later. In 2012, he received the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame’s Jack Graney Award, a prestigious trophy given to a member of the Canadian media in gratitude for their contributions to baseball in the country.
